Dominican left-hander Framber Valdez pitched a complete game, while Cuban Yordan Álvarez and Venezuelan José Altuve sent the ball behind the fence for the Houston Astros to conquer Oakland by defeating the Athletics 1-5 on Monday.
Valdez (5-1) put on a pitching display in his first complete game of the season, allowing only two hits and one run in nine innings in which he retired seven for strikeout.
The left-hander, who had his best performance of the season, has pitched six or more innings of three runs or less in his last seven appearances, allowing an RBI single to outfielder, also Dominican, Ramón Laureano in the sixth inning, to be the only score he allowed in the game.
