Waleek Watford, a 31 year old man with an extensive criminal history, died in a brutal attack that included multiple shootings and stabbings outside a NYCHA housing complex in Brooklyn.
Police who responded to a call to 888 at “Langston Hughes Houses” on Sutter Av. off Rockaway Av. in the Brownsville neighborhood found Watford mortally wounded around : 40 am Sunday, police said.
Watford was shot twice in the left shoulder and torso, and several stab wounds around his body. He was rushed to Brookdale University Hospital, but they couldn’t save him.
Although Watford spent a lot of time in the area where he was killed, he did not live there but in a shelter in Rosedale, Queens, and had “numerous” arrests for violent felony crimes, police said without detailing them, according to Daily News.
Despite his criminal record and the violent manner in which Watford died, residents of the Brownsville neighborhood where was assassinated they mourned his death. According to a store owner in the area, he apparently had problems with the owner of a local gas station.
Two weeks ago, the owner said, Watford ran into his store and hid behind the counter and asked the employees to call 911 because someone was going to kill him. “We called the police,” said the unidentified owner. “The police came in and he came out as if nothing had happened. The police said to forget” the incident.
