Appealing to the use of sarcasm, Jason Selvig, one of the members of the comedy duo The Good Liars, ridiculed the CEO of the National Rifle Association (NRA), Wayne LaPierre, during a speech at the annual convention held in Houston, Texas, which occurred almost a week after the massacre in a school in the city of Uvalde, where they died 19 children and two teachers.

In a video uploaded by The Good Liars on their social networks, which has already gone viral, Selvig can be seen delivering a satirical speech praising LaPierre for his “ thoughts and prayers” after the mass shooting last Tuesday.

During his speech, the member of the humorous duo highlighted the number of mass shootings that have occurred in the United States in recent years, and mocked the idea that what is needed to eradicate the problem is more “thoughts and prayers” to prevent new massacres like the ones in Uvalde from happening.

“My name is Jason Selvig, and I am from West Palm Beach, Florida, and I would like to say that I am fed up with the media. communication of the left and, frankly, of the people in this room today”, Selvig opened his controversial participation.

“Everyone says Wayne LaPierre is not doing enough to stop these mass shootings and even imply that Wayne LaPierre has contributed to making it easier for these shooters to obtain weapons,” continued S. elvig.

In the middle of his speech, he focuses on LaPierre, visibly confused. At that moment, Selvig began to enumerate a series of mass shootings that had occurred in the United States.

“You heard it later in Las Vegas, you heard it after Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, you heard it after Columbine , you heard it after Parkland, you heard it after Virginia Tech, you heard it after El Paso, you heard it after Buffalo. You keep hearing that Wayne LaPierre is not doing enough and, frankly, that is not true, ”said Selvig.

“The NRA, under LaPierre’s leadership, has offered thoughts and prayers to the victims and their families, and perhaps these mass shootings would stop happening if we all thought a little more and prayed a little more” , said Selvig.

In a mocking tone, Selvig closed his intervention stressing the importance of “thoughts and prayers”, and “thanked” LaPierre for his.

“I ask everyone in this room to think, pray, give your thoughts and your prayers. Your prayers and your thoughts. And if we give enough of these thoughts and prayers, these mass shootings will stop. So I want to thank you, Wayne LaPierre, for all of your thoughts and all of his prayers,” Selvig concluded his satirical speech.

After The Good Liars published the video, multiple reactions were immediate. The recording managed to go viral, to the point of having more than 6.1 million views on Twitter to date.

The NRA’s annual convention, held in the same state where the Uvalde massacre occurred, began last 27 May, three days after the deadly shooting, and ended on Sunday. He highlighted the participation of former President Donald Trump, as well as the Republican Senator from the state of Texas, Ted Cruz. Greg Abbott announced after the Uvalde massacre that he would not attend, although he sent a video to the convention.
