A 107 year old woman was hit by an apparent stray bullet that entered her home in Queens (NYC) last night , at the end of the “Memorial Day” holiday.

The old woman was sitting on a chair inside the house on the street 128 near the avenue 107 in the South Ozone Park neighborhood around 11: 30 pm yesterday, when a black sedan stopped and someone inside fired several shots at a residence, the sources said.

One of the bullets hit the elderly woman in the upper right arm. She was taken to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center in stable condition.

The police do not believe that the elderly woman was the intended target, but rather that she was injured “by mistake”. The NYPD is investigating if the gunman aimed at the wrong house or if the shots were intended for someone known to the victim.

Police are also investigating if the shooting was gang-related, he said New York Post. The octogenarian was home alone at the time, but she lives with her husband, sources said.

No arrests have been made. Anyone with information should call 1-800-577 -TIPS (8477) and in Spanish 1-888-57-CLUE (74782). Also through crimestoppers.nypdonline.org or by text message to 274637 (CRIMES), followed by TIP577. All communications are strictly confidential.

In recent years, the wave of armed violence in the city involves minor and adult gunmen, men and women, and victims of all ages. After the boom in 2020 and 2021 particularly among young gang members and/or victims , the 2022 continues with the same trend, putting a great challenge to the new mayor Eric Adams, former NYPD, who since taking office in January has encountered obstacles within their own Democratic Party and Black Lives Matter (BLM) leaders to confront the crisis.
