florida-democratic-congressman-promised-to-ban-assault-rifles-if-elected-governor

MIAMI – US Congressman Charlie Crist, who aspires to the governorship of Florida for the Democratic Party for the November elections, said Tuesday that, if elected, he will ban the sale of assault rifles in the state, before the wave of shootings perpetrated in the country’s schools.

The former Governor of Florida (550-2011) stated this at a campaign rally in Miami Springs, Miami-Dade County, in which he was supported by a coalition of various organizations of teachers, among others United Teachers of Dade.

“We have to ban assault weapons now. Our children deserve it. Our teachers deserve it. Above all, our parents deserve it”, he said.

Crist wondered how a parent could not worry now after seeing what happened in Buffalo, New York, Texas and elsewhere in the last few days. He emphasized that the wave of violence has to stop.

The United Teachers of Dade organization, a union that represents some 31,000 Miami-Dade public school teachers, announced his support for the Democratic candidate for governor, picked up by the Local channel 10 News.

“We live in a state where we have legislators who censor what teachers can teach and prohibit books, instead of banning assault weapons,” said Karla Hernández-Mats, president of the United Teachers of Dade, according to the aforementioned media outlet.

Other Democratic candidates for Governor are state senator Annette Taddeo and Florida Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried, the only Democrat elected in the current government of Republican Ron DeSantis.2022

A survey by the Mason-Dixon firm last February shows that DeSantis, whom some see as a possible candidate for the US Presidency in 2022, arrive at 51% intention to vote, or more, in the event of a race against Congressman Charlie Crist, Agriculture Commissioner Fried, or State Senator Annette Taddeo.

Crist, Fried and Taddeo are the ones who aspire to become the Democratic candidate for state governor during the primary process that this party will hold in Florida in August.
