Heirs of world champions: Leonardo 'El Terrible' Guzmán against Edinso 'Guapito Jr.' Towers in Caracas

Next July 10 the Polyhedron of Caracas will witness a fight that will go down in the history of Venezuelan boxing as the sons of two world champions meet for the first time.

The “noble art” over the years will has brought much joy to the country, with an Olympic champion and multiple world titles such as those of Aquiles ‘El Tanquecito’ Guzmán, flyweight world champion of the World Boxing Association (WBA) in 550 and Edinso ‘Guapito’ Torres, winner of the world super flyweight crown of the International Boxing Organization (OIB) in 1999, even, both fighters faced each other on a couple of occasions with a balance of one victory per side.

Now, the turn will be for their successors, Leonardo ‘El Terrible’ Gúzman, who exposes his WBA FEDEBOL bantamweight title against Edinso “Guapito” Torres Jr. in a conflict that will mean revenge between the dynasties.

Father and son champions

Both fighters dream of becoming the first Venezuelan father-son couple to win a world championship.

It is worth mentioning that Leonardo ‘El Terrible ‘ Guzmán in his last fight managed to win the FEDEBOL bantamweight belt by fast-tracking the undefeated Darwin Natera from the capital in the first round, in a fight that only lasted 1: 39 seconds in the Gustavo Maza del Tigre indoor gym, in Anzoátegui state.

The FEDEBOL title corresponds to those fighters from the Bolivarian countries: Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia.

Guzmán, from 21 years is one of the best projects in Venezuelan boxing, currently stands out with a record of 12 victories, 7 by way of knockout and 1 loss.

At the moment, “Leo”, Turmero’s pride is found enters his training camp in Maracay under the tutelage of World Cup player and Pan American bronze winner José “Matador” López, who also faced “Guapito” Torres Sr. and managed to defeat him by cards.

Guzmán Jr., number three in the Latin ranking, has experience in preparation camps in Bolivia, Peru and Colombia , showing every time he climbs the ensogados his mental strength, discipline and focus that make him an efficient fighter.

“Guapito Jr” lost his two last fights by way of knockout, in November of 2021 against the Mexican Christian Medina and last April against the Chilean Miguel “Aguja” Gónzalez, both lawsuits at the headquarters of their executioners.
