The Spanish tennis player Rafael Nadal assured this Tuesday, after his match against Novak Djokovic for the Roland Garros quarterfinals, that he played at a high level against the Serbian although in recent months he had not been able to compete at that level.
Nadal recalled that injuries have sidelined him from the highest level but that at least today he was enough to beat the Serbian tennis player.
“I have played my best game in the last four months, but due to lack of habit of playing at this level I lost that second set. Playing well, maintaining mental and physical intensity is a habit, and these three and a half months I haven’t been able to train or compete. That is why victory is more valuable. In the third set I had a good level and in the fourth I didn’t lose hope”, he pointed out.
Likewise, Rafael Nadal claimed to be “excited” and considered that during the match he was the one who dominated the most minutes of the match.
“If we look at the four hours of the match I think that for more minutes I have been more dominant than him. A second set that shouldn’t have gone with a double break has escaped me, but that’s what playing against Novak has to do”, he said after beating the Serbian 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 and 7-6 (4 ).
Finally, Nadal also left the door open for this Roland Garros to be the last one, but he will have the answer when the tournament ends.
“ Here we will leave everything. I don’t know what will happen after here, but I will be able to compete and that is what I am doing. This is not the time to give many explanations. When the tournament is over, I’ll explain it”, he said.
Now, Nadal will face the Russian Alexander Zverev in the semifinals of the tournament next Friday, June 3 and if he wins, he will seek his title number 14 at Roland Garros on Sunday.
