Yaakov Farhi, a 5-year-old boy, died after almost four months of agony after being run over by a neighbor who was driving a luxurious BMW in Brooklyn (NYC).
The minor was beaten by a neighbor driving into a driveway on E. 12th St. near Avenue N in the Midwood neighborhood around 2: 55 pm on February 9th. He was hospitalized 15 weeks and died on Sunday 29 May, the New York police reported today.
The boy was standing in the driveway of the neighboring house when a woman from 49 Years driving a black BMW sedan hit him. “The mother was bringing her 5-year-old son home from school and he ran and fell in the driveway,” a neighbor told the Daily News after the accident. “(The driver) was arriving and ran over him.”
Paramedics took Farhi to Maimonides Hospital in critical condition. The driver, who appeared in shock as she spoke to police, remained at the scene. No charges were filed at the time. The police investigation into the accident continues, a New York police spokesman said today.
In addition to gun violence, traffic accidents are another big challenge for the new mayor, Eric Adams, after a dismal legacy from his predecessor, Bill De Blasio. New York City has seen a 35% increase in traffic accidents so far this year, the NYPD said in mid-April . At the end of that month there was a tragic streak in NYC at an average of one person killed by a run over every day.
