Puerto Rican Edgar Berlanga will fight again this coming June 11 in the Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden against Colombian Roamer Alexis Angulo to defend his NABO super middleweight belt.
‘The Chosen One’ is known for being a knockout fighter and used to finishing his fights early . This time he will face a tough challenger who has a record of 27-2, 23 KO’s, the Colombian Angulo is a difficult opponent to knock down and he only fell via chloroform against David Benavidez in August 2018 in the tenth round.
The other battle that Angulo lost was against Gilberto ‘Zurdo’ Ramírez in 2018. Other than that, his career has been a two-time world championship challenger and he won vacant and Latin titles.
Berlanga, on the other hand, has 19-0, 16 KO’s in his history with a six-year career starting in 2016. This fight will be scheduled for 10 rounds and is performed by Top Rank.
In his last appearance, Berlanga defeated Steve Rolls in March by unanimous decision at Madison Square Garden. In April of 2021 he defeated Demond Nicholson by unanimous decision in eight rounds and with that result he saw his streak of 15 triumphs by way of KO in the first round itself.
“I am very excited to star in my second main event in the Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden. Get ready for another sellout!” Berlanga expressed in written statements published by Top Rank.
“For this fight, we decided to do the training camp on my island, and it has been a great decision. It has been a great training camp in Puerto Rico. At the beginning of the training camp, I met with ‘Tito’ Trinidad and he gave me some very motivating advice. He is my hero”, he concluded.
‘Moncho’ Lebron will be in the co-star due to the loss of Zayas
Henry ‘Moncho’ Lebrón (15-0, 10 knockouts) will face Luis ‘Popeye ‘ Lebron (18-3.1, 11 knockouts) to prepare for the main event. ‘Moncho is 24 years old, is from Aguadilla, PR, and will have its premiere televised by ESPN for Latin America, reported Top Rank. ‘Popeye’ has been in his career for nine years, has never been knocked out and has no relationship or family kinship with ‘Moncho’.
Initially, that semi-star fight was between Puerto Rican Xander Zayas (13-0 and 9 knockouts) and the Uzbek Ravshan Hudaynazaro, but an illness left the boxer from 19 years old outside the evening.
“I am sorry to announce that due to illness I was forced to withdraw from my fight on 11 of June. I did my best to get better, however, my condition worsened in the last few days and forced me to retire on the advice of medical experts, ”he wrote on his Twitter account.
