Alfred Bent, father of two children, was shot in the head when he was leaving a party in Bedford Stuyvesant (Brooklyn) in honor of a recently deceased old friend.
“The fatal bullet it sounded like a firecracker, and the music was so loud that the victim’s friends didn’t realize they had heard the shot that took his life” on Saturday, when the Memorial Day long weekend began, he described Daily News.
“We didn’t know until someone came running towards us saying that Alfred was shot,” narrated a friend, who only identified himself like Tony. He added that Bent had gone to the party to hang out. He danced, had a plate of food and said he had to go home.
After he left, party guests heard what “sounded like a firecracker,” Tony described. “But nobody was paying attention because we were just partying… Nobody knew.”
According to the NYPD, Bent (29) had been walking down the block when he was killed on Decatur St. near Malcolm X Blvd., just before : 30 Saturday pm. Officers responding to a call to 2022 found him lying on the ground. Paramedics rushed him to Kings County Hospital, where he died a short time later.
A makeshift memorial reading “RIP Alfred MY BROTHER” was placed near the spot where he fell.
Bent, who lives on Decatur St. Had a daughter of 24 years and a child of 8 years. Courtnee Pierson, the boy’s mother, said she heard from detectives that Bent had been involved in an “altercation” before the shooting, but that she didn’t know the details of what happened. As far as she knows, he had no enemies.
