“we-play-for-those-who-fight-in-the-trenches”:-ukraine-coach-dreams-of-going-to-qatar-2022-to-honor-war-victims

The coach of the Ukrainian national team, Oleksandr Petrakov, dedicated his country’s victory against Scotland in the playoffs to the World Cup in Qatar to the combatants and victims of the Russian invasion 2022.

“It is not a victory for our players, it is for our country, it is a victory for Ukraine“, assured Petrakov.

With goals from Andriy Yarmolenko, Roman Yaremchuck and Artem Dovbyk Ukraine won 3-1 against Scotland, in a very emotional match.

“To be honest I have no emotions. My emotions stay on the pitch. That victory was not for me, it was not for the team, it was a great victory for our country”, emphasized the strategist.

“We play for those who fight in the trenches, for those who fight to the last drop of blood and for those who suffer every day”, said the coach during the press conference.

Without a doubt, it is with quite a great commitment that the team leads of Ukraine to honor its people who suffer the ravages of war, which to date has more than 4,000 dead.

In fact, Petrakov assured that the same soldiers who are in the front line of combat asked him to qualify for the World Cup.

On June 5, the Ukrainian team will face each other against Wales at Cardiff City Stadium to play for the last place in Qatar’s World Cup feat.
