Joe Biden, president of the United States, called on the nation this Thursday to ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, during a speech.

“We need to ban weapons assault rifles and high-capacity magazines. And if we can’t ban assault weapons, we should raise the age to buy them from 18 a 21 years,” Biden said in a speech delivered when the country.

The massacres in several points of United States, have shocked the country and have left weapons policies in doubt, after shootings were recorded in Buffalo, Tulsa and Uvalde, the latter where they died 18 children and two teachers.

His speech also coincides with the conversations between senators of the Democratic and Republican party on gun control that are taking place in the wake of the aforementioned shootings.

Joe Biden’s position on gun control

Biden has selectively waded into the gun control debate, but has stopped short of endorsing any specific legislative action to prevent further killings.

Wednesday , the president expressed scant optimism that Congress would agree to new gun control legislation, even as a bipartisan group of senators meets to weigh options.

“ I served in Congress for 19 years. I’m never totally sure,” Biden said when asked if he thought lawmakers would agree to new gun laws.
” It depends. So I don’t know,” Biden said. “I have not been in the negotiations like them ‘
