A surprising discovery was made by a California woman after she found more than $36,000 in cash, hidden inside one of the couch cushions he got for free after someone gave it away on Craigslist.

Vicky Umodu, from Colton in San Bernardino County, was looking for furniture for her new home in online advertisements.

And when she started browsing the website of classified ads, the woman found two sofas and a matching chair that someone gave away.

“I said, ‘Maybe it’s a trick.’ I said: ‘Let me call them’“, narrated the woman.

When communicating, she found out that the family was giving away the furniture that belonged to a loved one who had recently passed away and they were liquidating everything on the property .

After collecting the furniture, the woman He said that the two sofas and the chair worked perfectly in his new house.

“I just moved and I have nothing in my house. He was so excited that we picked him up and brought him,” he detailed.

The discovery

When carefully examining the sofas, the woman discovered that the cushion of one of the armchairs had something strange inside, an unknown element.

“I thought it was a heating pad,” said Umodu, although he soon dismissed that theory because there was no electrical cable.

Later he decided to unzip the cushion and when he peeked inside, he discovered several envelopes filled with thousands of dollars: “I was telling my son: ‘Come, come, come!’ He was yelling, ‘this is money! I need to call the guy’”.

They were $36,000, the family revealed to KABC-TV.

The temptation did not won

The honest woman indicated that she was never tempted to keep the money she found. She pointed out that she immediately returned the money to the people who gave her the furniture.

“God has been kind to me and my children, they are all alive and well. I have three beautiful grandchildren, so what can I ask God for?” added Umodu.

In reward for his honesty, the family of the deceased gave him $2,39 to the woman, money she used to buy a new refrigerator.
