Two cousins, victims of the school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, were buried yesterday in a cemetery in that city.
Jailah Silguero and her cousin Jayce Luevanos, both from 10 years, were two of the 21 fatalities in the May 24 shooting at Robb Elementary School.
Salvador Ramos, of 16 years old, opened fire in a classroom and killed 19 students and two teachers before he was shot down by officers.
Jailah and Jayce were officially bid farewell to this world side by side in colorful coffins following a wake at Hillcrest Memorial Funeral Home.
The girl’s coffin was colored pink and white and included the words “TikTok” and “Pop”, while e the deposit in which Jayce’s remains were found was painted green with the theme of dinosaurs and jungle.
The coffins were separated only by teddy bears and images of both smiling while they were with life.
The ceremony was decorated with images of the children from a television screen. In the parade of photos and videos, those of Jailah stood out on TikTok dancing.
According to the The New York Post reported, both children asked not to go to school on the day of the massacre. That day, part of the school day was spent with an event for academic achievement.
“Jailah didn’t want to go to school,” her grandmother Linda Gonzales confirmed to the Daily Beast last week. “That’s why her mother was so upset… ‘If only she had let her stay at home,'” the woman said, referring to the mother’s words.
While in the case Jayce had allegedly begged his grandmother to let him go with her on a trip to the San Antonio Zoo.
But the boy’s grandfather, Carmelo Quiroz, said that the minor was told that it did not make sense for him to miss school so close to the end of the school year.
“He was so sad that he couldn’t go. Maybe if he had gone, he would be here,” Quiroz told USA Today.
