El Salvador experienced a historic moment this Thursday, after the tennis player from that country, Marcelo Arévalo, qualified for the final of the Roland Garros doubles tournament along with his partner, the Dutchman Jean-Julien Rojer.
Arévalo and his pair defeated Rohan Bopanna and Matwe Middelkoop 4-6, 6-3 and 7-6(8) in the semifinal match.
This is the first men’s doubles final at Roland Garros in which the number one tennis player from El Salvador will participate.
Arévalo played in 2021 the final of the United States Open in mixed doubles, having as a partner the Mexican Giul Iana Olmos. However, they fell against the American Desirae Krawczyk and the British Joe Salisbury.
The greatest achievement of Arévalo obtained it in Paris, a contest in which he managed to reach the semifinal of the men’s doubles, since in Australia he only reached the quarterfinals.
So far it is unknown who the Salvadoran’s rivals will be and his partner, as it will be defined in the confrontation between the Argentine Horacio Zeballos and the Spanish Marcel Granollers against the Croatian Ivan Dodig and the American Austin Krajicek.
