This summer, theaters could face a shortage of products such as popcorn, candy, soft drinks and other snacks. This is due to inflation and supply chain disruptions that have affected the availability of these foods in movie theaters.
Movie theater operators are also having difficulty restocking key items they they’re not exactly food, but they’re all about it, like the bags that hold the popcorn and the liners that keep the butter from seeping through the packaging, the New York Post reported.
This has forced theaters to limit sales and use non-paper packaging, instead using plastic or metal.
Disruptions in the supply chain have also affected shipments of plastic trays used in theaters to hold plastic cups , nachos and sodas.
Some theater owners have had to buy unused cups from rival theaters that have closed and then use them to serve be offers to customers, regardless of whether the logo on the cups is that of a competitor.
Now that business closures are due to COVID-19 have been relaxed, cinemas are having more and more customers, as there are many people who are eager to leave their homes to find some entertainment, but this in turn has caused the shortage problem to intensify.
This past weekend, theaters had heavy traffic due to the premiere of the movie ‘Top Gun: Maverick’, which is already a box office success and stars Tom Cruise, who reprises his iconic role from the eighties as Lieutenant Pete Mitchell ‘Maverick’.
So far, the film has raised $248 million worldwide.
