the-love-of-a-dog-reduces-pain

If you are a dog lover, you have surely gone through difficult times in life in which your furry friend has been an essential companion. And it is that if it is a physical or emotional pain, some research has shown that the affection of a dog can reduce pain in just 10 minutes.

During their stay in a hospital emergency room, patients experienced relief and a reduction in their pain after spending just 10 minutes in company of a canine, and they even saw their optimism increase, something that also happened among the medical staff.

Throughout research published in PLOS One, more than 200 patients in the emergency room reported their level of pain on a scale of 1 to 10 (10 was the highest level of pain). Of these, those who received a visit of 10 minutes with therapy dogs expressed a decrease in grief on the scale.

“Clinically significant changes in pain were observed, as well as significant changes in anxiety, depression and well-being in the intervention with therapy dogs” compared to patients who did not receive dogs, concluded specialists from the University of Saskatchewan, in Canada.

And although there are some concerns about hygiene and the possible transmission of diseases from dogs to humans in hospitals, some of these places carry out preventive measures to avoid zoonoses and maintain sanitary standards.

Other studies related to the effects of the coexistence of dogs Humans with dogs have shown the extraordinary ability of furry dogs to empathize with the circumstances and feelings of their c caregivers.

Japanese researchers have found that dogs are capable of detecting negative intentions in humans. Another study found that these companion animals are capable of expressing love for their owners in different ways, including licking, hugging and lying on their backs.
