As a catastrophic scene was described, by a Tulsa police captain, the interior of the Oklahoma medical center that became the scene of a tragic mass shooting on Wednesday.

Speaking to the Associated Press, police captain Richard Meulenberg said police encountered a “catastrophic scene” inside the medical complex.

Tusla police reported that at least four people died after being hit by bullets fired by a gunman who opened fire inside the Natalie Medical Building at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa.

The subject was carrying a rifle and a pistol, and later died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to police.

They are not yet ready to identify the victims

When speaking with AP, health officials and the police commented that they were not yet ready to identify the victims shooting victims, who were inside the building, within which there is an outpatient surgery clinic and a breast health center.

On Wednesday night, Eric Dalgleish, deputy chief of the Tulsa Police Department, commented that the suspect he was a black male, between 35 and 40 years old.

Dalgleish added that the scene of the mass shooting was limited to a section of the second floor. Likewise, he said that it is not clear if the author of the shooting was a patient of the place.

Prompt response from the authorities

The deputy chief also reported that there was a “three-minute response” from police, and believed that it took about five minutes for officers from the time the call was received to attack and subdue the shooter.

This shooting occurred eight days after a 18 year old boy named Salvador Ramos entered Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas and murdered 21 people, 19 children and two teachers, and 18 days after a gunman opened fire at a supermarket in Buffalo, New York, taking the life of 10 people.
