Two new serious incidents of school violence have been reported in New York in recent days, where the radars are on due to the local rise in gun crime and the massacre last week of students in Uvalde (Texas).
Yesterday in Brooklyn (NYC), a 20 year old high school student was arrested with a gun magazine packed with 8 bullets in his backpack, police said.
The senior went through a scanner when he entered Erasmus High School in Flatbush, which revealed the illegal contents of his backpack . He didn’t have a gun, just bullets
Expected that the unidentified student receive an appearance ticket at the desk, police said. The charge against him was not immediately specified, reported New York Post.
The day before, the Tuesday on Long Island, another student was accused of making terroristic threats against students and teachers at Westbury High School, authorities said.
He was identified as Oketa Orlando Blair Jr., of 18 years. He allegedly wanted to commit a violent act against the staff and students, but the police were notified in time. It was not specified how the threats were made or what type they were.
Blair was arrested on Tuesday and charged of making a terroristic threat and aggravated harassment. A judge granted a protection order that prevents the defendant from buying firearms, reported Pix11. He is scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Hempstead.
Last week two students were arrested in Queens and Long Island for threatening with shooting in their schools, a few days after the massacre in an elementary school in May 24 in Uvalde (Texas).
