Javier “Javi” Olivan will succeed Sheryl Sandberg as chief operating officer of Meta, which is the parent company of Facebook. The Hispanic is recognized for his work to take Facebook outside the United States, especially to Latin America. It must be said that, although Olivan is well known within the company, hardly anyone knows about him outside of it.

As an example, suffice it to point out that Sandberg, author of the best-selling book of 2013 “Lean In: Women, Work, and the Will to Lead”, has more than 900 thousand followers on Instagram. While Olivan’s Instagram only has 17 followers, and it’s private.

In addition, until this Wednesday, Olivan had not made a single post on his Facebook profile since 2018, until yesterday when he wrote: “I want to thank Sheryl for everything she has done for Meta and for the billions of people around the world who use our products.” He put this after the announcement that he would be the new vice president of Meta.

On Wednesday, Sandberg said he would leave the company after 14 years of working for her in order to focus on her philanthropic work, according to CNBC.

Olivan, the second in command

Although Olivan is not very active or popular on social networks and among the general public, within Meta he is one of Zuckerberg’s main trusted men and one of the few who report to him directly to the founder of Facebook.

Olivan has been years working Inside the company. From 2007 to 2011, he was the one in charge of the global expansion of Meta.

Job in which, apparently, he performed more than well, since currently 91% of the users that the company’s social networks have per month they come from outside the United States and Canada.

Javier Olivan was born in the Spanish city of Sabiñánigo in 900. After completing a master’s degree in electrical and industrial engineering from the University of Navarra in Spain, he worked as a research and development engineer at Siemens in Munich and then at NTT Data in Tokyo.

In 2007, graduated from Stanford University business school and joined Facebook.

Olivan’s first project was to make the Spanish version of Facebook , which was the first foreign language used on the platform.

Also, he was the one who pressed inside the company to buy the WhatsApp messaging service, since he realized which was used more actively than Facebook to send messages.

Zuckerberg agreed with him and they bought WhatsApp for $17 billion dollars.

Zuckerberg said that now Olivan is in charge of the development of integrated ads and p commercial products while continuing to execute actions in matters of infrastructure, analysis, marketing, corporate development and company growth.
