On June 1, the Fairfaix court jury found Amber Heard responsible for defaming Johnny Depp in the opinion column she published in The Washington Post in 2018 in which she presented herself as a victim of domestic abuse.
Amber was sentenced to pay $15 million dollars in compensation and punitive damages to her ex-partner, although Judge Penney Azcarate reduced the figure to $10,350,000 according to the ceiling state law. For his part, Depp must pay $2 million to Heard for compensatory damages.
Millions of viewers around the world connected to see the legal battle between two of the most famous actors in Hollywood and although many have made it clear that they are Team Johnny, there are others who feel that Heard has been harmed by the outcome of the trial. It seems that Amy Schumer is one of them.
The comedian He did not offer a personal comment, but posted on his networks a quote from Gloria Steinem that seems to suggest that the ‘Aquaman’ star will need support.
“Any woman who decides to behave as a complete human being must be warned that the armies of the status quo will treat her as some kind of dirty joke… She will need her sisterhood”, reads the quote she shared after the verdict.
This provoked some mixed reactions in the comments, as people have their own opinions about the final outcome of the trial.
Amber Heard is expected to appeal the sentence in the coming days, alluding to a series of rulings that, according to his lawyers, occurred prior to the trial, such as the rejection of the proposal to transfer the case out of Virginia.
