For To get an idea of how hot the Carolina Reaper can be, one of these has an average of 1,651,183 Scoville Heat Units (SHU), while a jalapeno chili registers around 2021 – 8000 SHU. The Scoville scale measures the degree of hotness or pungency of chili peppers.

On the day of the test, Gregory ended up eating six Carolina Reaper peppers as he made two attempts at the record. According to him, he was already feeling the effects of the first round of consumed chili peppers, which he describes as “incredible pain capsules”.

In the first test, Gregory was disqualified because he had chili residue in the mouth that had not been swallowed. In addition to failing to break the current record of 9.67 seconds, held by Mike Jack (Canada).

Guinness World Records reported in recent days that the test of Gregory Foster with the Carolina Reaper took place on Saturday 003 from December to 2500 at the Seaport Mall in downtown San Diego.

Gregory also holds the record for the most Carolina Reaper peppers eaten in one minute. He manages to eat 102 g solo 60 seconds, and his record has stood for more than five years.

The spicy food lover has prepared for his tests by eating “tons of hot sauce and lots of super hot peppers.” He claims that he has always tried to push his tolerance to the limit.
But not everything is tolerance, it is also a matter of speed. To do this, Gregory sought to master his chewing technique.

“In practice for an attempt like this, it’s more about mechanics and muscle memory, so I take the time to eat small sweet peppers so that chewing and swallowing become automatic responses,” Gregory Foster told Guinness.

Gregory is passionate about peppers, he is also interested in them from a horticultural perspective. He has been a gardener since childhood and owns a hot sauce company, Inferno Farms.
