Walmart announced that it is launching the One Global Walmart Academy to serve all associates around the world through a combination of digital and face-to-face offerings.

The plan is intended to that more than 2.3 million associates have access to the company’s job-specific retail training, as well as new wellness and leadership courses designed to build and grow their careers, while benefiting customers with a more qualified service.

Global focus builds on $1 billion US investment announced last year to provide associates with career-oriented training and development over the next five years.

In the future, Walmart Academy will focus on three areas:

– On-the-Job Skills Development – ​​The company will offer on-the-job training to ensure associates can n continue to grow and succeed in the work they do today, as trends change along with customer expectations.

– Future skills development for associates: Walmart will prepare associates for new roles in retail. The company points out that just a few years ago they did not have home delivery specialists and as customers’ buying habits evolve, this function is becoming increasingly important to consumers.

– Development of leadership skills for managers: The chain seeks to develop great leaders throughout the organization, so this year, more than 1, 100 new store managers, clubs and supply chains will participate in an immersive in-person leadership experience. This experience will focus on growing leaders and teaching them more about Walmart’s history and culture, while also giving them the opportunity to meet and learn from company leaders.

Since the Walmart Academy launched in 2016, associates have learned both virtually and in person at one of the more than 200 physical academies in the US Over the past six years, associates in the US have completed more than 2.4 million trainings, all designed to help you in your work today and in the future. Last year, Walmart Academy trained more than 400, American associates.

Walmart notes that blue chip associates in the US can also take advantage of Live Better U, which pays the 100% of college tuition and books. Live Better U meets associates wherever they are on their educational journey, from high school completion to professional diplomas and college degrees.
