One of the surviving students of the shooting at Robb Elementary School revealed that he was saved from the onslaught because he devoted himself to praying while hiding with another student under a desk.
León Hernández , a 9-year-old third-grade student, revealed to The New York Post that he and other classmates were in the schoolyard when a coach told them to run.
“I could hear gunshots and people yelling ‘get into the room,’” said the boy.
“When I was running, I heard detonations and a bullet passed near me“, he added.
That was when León and another girl hid for about an hour and 20 minutes until an officer rescued them.
According to the interviewee, his partner was terrified.
“I told him that we had to pray not to die,” the student recalled.
León’s statements were made this Thursday during a vigil on Main Street, Uvalde, for the victims of the massacre reported on Tuesday of last week.
César Hernández confirmed the traumatic experience of his son.
“He said he felt the air from the bullets,” he revealed the father.
“We did not think that something like this would happen here. This is a small community and we all know each other”, described the Hispanic.
At the moment, the police officers who came to the scene are investigators due to the delay in responding to arrest Salvador Ramos, who killed students and two teachers.
Reports estimate the time that the shooter was cornering and shooting victims at about minutes until he was shot down by agents.
