Matthew Dedmon, a pastor of 47 years from Missouri, would have killed a man who allegedly had an affair with his wife.

The Ozark Police Department said in a statement that officers responded to a reported shooting just before 1 pm in the block of 100 West Church Street.

At the scene they found Joe Newburn, aged 57, lying on the road with multiple gunshot wounds, the police said, and they began investigation of the crime.

According to a statement of probable cause obtained by Ozarks First, Dedmon had driven to the location in his truck to confront his wife and Newburn about an affair he suspected the two of them were having. He allegedly observed the couple having lunch at a restaurant not far from the city courthouse, according to KY3.

After his wife got into a vehicle with Newburn, Dedmon allegedly got out of his truck, armed with a gun, and confronted the man, who remained in his car.

According to police, Dedmon later shot Newburn three times in the chest before taking his gun to his truck.

The alleged lover later died at a Springfield hospital after failing to recover from his injuries, reports say.

Matthew Dedmon, of Springfield, was detained by police while on the scene, who believed he pulled the trigger.

According to local media, investigators they discovered the gun used in the shooting inside Dedmon’s truck.

Last Sunday, the authorities announced that the grass r had been arrested and charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action.

The man told investigators he was a pastor at Heritage Baptist Church in Rogersville, according to KY3.

Currently, Dedmon is being held at the Christian County Detention Center without bond.
