Keber Martínez was indicted this week on suspicion of shooting patient Rubén Pérez inside the crowded emergency room at Jacobi Medical Center in late January.

The extreme act of gun violence was caught on video by a security camera the night of January 25, and Martinez was arrested shortly after.

The suspect of 25 years old allegedly shot Pérez (35), who had registered in the room emergency room with asthma problems, officials said. In the video, the victim is seen running through the waiting area seeking cover while being shot.

The young suspect shot Pérez four times, but miraculously only hit him in the forearm and no one else was injured. The same man had also survived a shooting last year. No official motive for the attack was released, but police sources said in January that Martínez was in the hospital looking for a friend who was arrested and possibly receiving treatment, when he got into an argument with Pérez, whom he knew.

A grand jury recently returned an indictment on attempted murder, assault and other weapons charges, and Martinez was indicted on Wednesday, June 1, according to the Bronx District Attorney’s office. A judge ordered his detention without bail, highlighted New York Post.

“The defendant allegedly opened fire near patients, including a mother and her baby, as well as emergency medical care professionals, who ran for their lives,” District Attorney Darcel Clark denounced this week. from the Bronx.
