Authorities in Florida, USA, are preparing for the arrival of what they have classified as a “potential” tropical storm formed by Hurricane Agatha, which has already passed through Mexico, and which only three days after start the hurricane season, has mobilized part of the population of this state.
Gusts of wind accompanied by torrential rains took place this Friday in the southern counties of Miami-Dade, Broward and Monroe, the latter where the tourist Florida Keys are located.
“We are observing the potential storm and at this time there are no interruptions in the (public) transportation service, but the covid testing sites -19 may be temporarily closed today and tomorrow”, Daniella Levine Cava, mayor of Miami-Dade, pointed out at a press conference. .
He also noted that the “potential storm reaches only three days into the hurricane season and it’s h pray to prepare ourselves well; being prepared is the best way to stay safe.”
The National Hurricane Center (NHC) said via Twitter that the storm known as Hurricane Agatha, which caused at least nine dead in Mexico a few days ago, it will now be known as Alex in the Atlantic Ocean basin if it forms in the next few hours.
According to the NHC, at 17: 10 US Eastern Time (21: 00 GMT), the disturbance was located about 563 km southwest of Fort Myers, on the west coast of Florida, with maximum sustained winds of 65 km/h.
Through its Twitter account, in its most recent update, to date, the National Center The Hurricane Department warned that “heavy rains continue over western Cuba and southern Florida.”
