despite-inflation,-rotisserie-chicken-from-costco-and-other-stores-still-costs-the-same.-why?

Currently, it seems that the price of all products is rising…. except for the rotisserie chicken. And it’s that stores across the country are still keeping the price of chicken low.

At BJ’s, Costco and Sam’s Club, you’ll still find them for less than $5 each. Other stores continue to sell them for around $7.

It should be noted that chicken prices in general have been going up for at least a couple of years. In that time, they have increased by 16.4% year over year, which would be the largest increase of 12 months registered for chicken in general.

Fresh whole chicken prices specifically increased by 14.6% year over year, according to the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Ernest Baskin, an associate professor of food marketing at Saint Joseph University, told Money Talks News that keeping the price of rotisserie chicken low is a strategy stores use, known as ‘market leader pricing’. losses’.

“It is a way for the store to offer you a discount on a highly requested item and then get the money back on some of the other products in the store”.

Those rotisserie chickens are highly sought after in stores, and many customers just go to stores for them. And stores know that shoppers who go to get their chickens at an affordable price are more likely to buy other things there and that it is their favorite store.

“There is also an aura in the store to say: ‘Look, our prices are generally very low. We don’t upload them unless absolutely necessary.’ They are giving a low-cost aura to the store, which is helpful for consumers when they are concerned about their purchasing power,” Baskin said of this strategy.

The hot dog and soda combo Costco’s food court is another example of the ‘loss-leader pricing’ strategy, as the combo still doesn’t go up in price despite inflation. And it is that, surprisingly, the price, $ 1.50 dollars that it costs, has been the same since the decade of 1980, and Costco already said in late May that they have no plans to increase the price at this time.
