On 29 May 2018, the daughter of an old woman of 82 years old named Sylvia Frens, went to the authorities of Grand Junction, Colorado, to denounce the mysterious disappearance of her mother, of which, 4 years later, there was no news about her or the case.

Unfortunately, the mystery could be solved a few weeks ago when the body of the old woman, in the least expected place.

Four years ago, when the investigations into the disappearance of the old woman began, the specialists found that a somewhat strange stench came from her room and that the eldest part of the bedroom floor was covered with a brown stain. After supposedly analyzing it, at that time it was determined that it was not blood.

Days later, the police discovered that Sylvia had another son named Richard Vandervelde, then 39 years old and who lived with the woman. The man had been using his mother’s debit card between February and June 2018, in different cities of the country. They also discovered that I had withdrawn more than $10,000 dollars in cash from the old woman’s account and that she had taken possession of her car.

Richard was arrested on the 5 June 2018, at an intersection in Missouri. At that time, he first lied about his identity and later, indicated that his mother had gone on a trip with a friend to California in April and that she had not notified him where in particular he was going or when he was going. I would go home. He also said that he had used her card with her prior authorization, without giving any clues at the time that could lead the police to the woman’s whereabouts.

Detectives then determined that , based on the evidence obtained throughout the investigation, Sylvia Frens had died.

It was in March of this year when the current occupant of the Frens home reported to authorities that there was a bag of trash in a sewer at the home, Fox News reported. Detectives searched the property once more and located human remains. DNA tests confirmed they were Sylvia’s; the autopsy concluded that he suffered a traumatic brain injury and that he died of homicide.

Grand Junction Police arrested to Vandervelde last 21 May in Florida, accused of various charges, including first-degree murder, tampering with a dead body, identity theft, and car theft. He must appear in court on June 21.
