A Missouri house caught fire after a dog managed to light the kitchen stove, which caused a grease combustion, according to authorities.
The incident, which was captured by the owner’s security camera, took place last Friday morning in Parkville, just outside Kansas City, according to the division chief of the district of Southern Platte Fire Protection, Chris Denney.
“They’re seeing new appliances with touch controls that are activated with the simple touch of a finger. An animal’s paw can also activate these types of controls,” Denney said in a statement to Fox News Digital.
“Use built-in safety devices if available on appliances when not in use and accessible to children and/or animals,” Denney added.
Denney also mentioned that there were only two dogs inside the house when the fire started, which started in the kitchen stove.
Video released by the Southern Platte Fire Protection District first shows one of the dogs standing on its hind legs looking over the stove, with its paws on the stove top. The dog then falls back to the ground.
The footage then shows smoke filling the kitchen before the stove finally bursts into flames.
Denney told Fox News Digital that the grease in “a skillet from last night’s dinner” caught fire.
Both dogs were saved, but pictures released by firefighters showed extensive damage to the inside the house.
