Around 42 people were found dead this Monday inside a tractor-trailer on a Texas highway, local media reported.

The remains of the possible migrants were found inside a trailer on Quintana Road, in San Antonio. 16 survivors were rushed to local hospitals, KSAT reported.

Local journalists near the scene reported seeing yellow tarps near the rear of the open truck, in addition to a large ambulance that was carrying out a massive evacuation of the victim. Dozens of officers from the San Antonio Police Department, Border Patrol and agents from the Office of Homeland Security were at the scene, the New York Post reported.

The tractor-trailer was abandoned in an area remote near the train tracks, while the driver remains at large, indicated New York Times.

Likewise, lifeguards and officers walked along the railway tracks with thermal imaging cameras to try to find possible survivors, as well as the driver of the trailer, according to KSAT.
