Philadelphia Phillies are going through a crisis in their roster since this Tuesday they will find out that they will have to deal with the absence of their stellar left-handed hitter Bryce Harper, who will undergo surgery to correct the fracture suffered in the thumb of his hand left.
Harper was hit last Saturday by a pitch from left-hander Blake Snell, in the fourth inning of the game against the San Diego Padres.
Subsequent studies showed fractures in the finger of the current National League Most Valuable Player’s left hand.
Harper met with specialists on Monday to explore his options, who determined that the best thing was to undergo surgery to repair the damage, MLB.com indicated this Tuesday.
In the current campaign, Harper has a batting average of .318, with 15 home runs, 48 RBIs and 49 laps scored in 64 games.
The Phillies star was primarily serving as a designated hitter, as he also struggles with a shoulder injury that prevents him from throwing, forcing him out of right field.
Harper’s loss is a serious blow to the Phillies, who are third in the Eastern Division of the National League (39-35).
