During the pandemic, motivated by the need to give a little hope, Grace Alvarez began to experiment with crystal-based jewelry design, thus giving rise to VibeMade, a line of necklaces, bracelets and earrings with “ good intention, love and positivism”.
The inspiration for the Dominican designer came from observing a friend using crystals in an unconventional and practical way.
“She attached them with Velcro to put them in different parts of the body, and I thought ‘you have to see a more practical and more beautiful way of doing it’, recalls the professional with studies at Parsons and more than 10 years of experience in the world of fashion. “And so the idea came to me to create the Asha Crystal Mask, which is our piece for meditation on which each crystal is aligned to each chakra of the face”.
Together with her husband Eduardo Ramírez, also a professional designer, in June 2020, officially launched the VibeMade website where you currently offer pieces carefully designed and made by hand, using crystals from small merchants with sustainable mining practices.
“We offer unique pieces that can be worn every day as energy armor. Our intention is to focus on positivity and create things with love and purpose”, affirms Alvarez.
Among the most popular pieces among his clientele, the following stand out: the aforementioned Asha Crystal Mask, an adjustable mask with crystals of chalcedony, agate and gold, designed to rest each crystal on the corresponding chakras and recommended for use during the meditation; the Cleo Crystal bracelet made of gold with eight black obsidian (jet) stones, which helps block the negativity; and the Jorja Obsidian earrings, also made with removable jet hoops, so you can turn the tone up or down depending on your mood.
Grace and Eduardo want to honor their heritage in their brand, so this year they incorporated pieces of larimar, a unique stone from their country of origin and known for its beautiful variety of blue tones.
“We are working with miners from the Dominican Republic to create several pieces,” adds Grace.
Another model of the bracelet is already available with this stone Cleo Crystal, with eight larimar beads, one for each phase of the lunar cycle, which according to the brand promotes relaxation and serenity, “a perfect help to balance your energy.”
