Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) star Carlos Vela attended a press conference on Tuesday to celebrate his contract extension with the team until 2022 and spoke of what the city where he resides represents for him.
Vela explained that he would be delighted to “enjoy” LAFC until the end of his career, emphasizing that he would like to win trophies in the institution.
“I said To the boys, I want to continue being here and I want to win trophies. I want to continue enjoying here until the end of my career“said Vela.
Similarly, Vela, who has lived in California since 2017 when he arrived from Real Sociedad, assured that he feels very comfortable with his place and is happy to represent with dignity to Mexico in the MLS.
“It is a city where they received me in an incredible way, they made me feel at home, like in Mexico. So much countryman makes things very easy for you. I love Los Angeles, my family is happy here. We will surely spend many years living here. For me it is an honor to represent Mexico in Los Angeles”, he said.
At the press conference, Vela said that he had some proposals from teams in the MX League to return to Mexico but it was not his best interest to return to his homeland.
“I had an offer, I talked to some people from teams in Mexico, but my first option was to stay in Los Angeles . My second option was to look at options in Europe“, he reported.
Vela was also asked if there was a possibility of returning to the Mexican team, taking into account that the World Cup will be held between November and December. Football in Qatar 2022, something that he flatly denied.
“No, I already said it, it’s up to young people, it’s up to other people to be in the world Cup. From here to support them, I hope we can reach that fifth, sixth or seventh game that we Mexicans love so much”, he said.
Finally, he spoke about what the arrival of Gareth Bale and Giorgio Chiellini to LAFC means to him and his plans to win titles in the franchise.
“This (his renewal) came from before (Chiellini and Bale). I wanted to continue enjoying Los Angeles. And those reinforcements make us even more excited. If we already had options, now even more. It’s good, but it’s also a pressure that we have to know how to handle. Chiellini and Bale are an example for everyone. Watching them work, one has no excuse not to do it. On that scale, I’m there too”, he closed him.
