To the disappointment of Johnny Depp’s followers, the actor will not be part of Disney’s ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ saga again, as was rumored this Monday through various media outlets.
According to NBC News, a representative of the American actor stated that the speculations about the possible return of Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow are false.
“That was an invention”, affirmed the representative.
Rumors began to circulate after the Australian outlet PopTopic reported about an alleged agreement between the actor and Disney to return to the franchise for around $300 million dollars.
During the multimillion-dollar defamation trial of Johnny Depp and his ex-wife Amber Heard, there was talk of the possibility of the actor’s return to the saga. In it Depp was asked: “If Disney came to you with $300 million dollars and a million alpacas, would nothing in this world make you go back and work with them? Disney in a ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ movie? To which the interpreter replied: “That’s true.”
The also film producer played Sparrow in five films, including ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales’, by 2017. Two additional films are currently in the works, so many fans of the star would like to see him again. An online petition asking him to reprise his role has more than 800,000 signatures.
Last April, Johnny Depp was removed from the franchise, former Hollywood agent Christian Carino reported at the time, during his testimony in the trial for defamation between the former couple.
Although Carino never explicitly indicated that the actor would be removed from the saga due to the accusations of domestic abuse made by the protagonist of ‘Aquaman’ , said that it was “understood” that it would be so.
The reason for Disney’s decision was never clarified, but “I suppose it is related to the accusations that Amber made,” said Carino, who at the time represented the couple and was even their friend.
“It is something that is done in the industry,” he added, citing “conversations with colleagues and studio executives.”
