An MTA city bus and a Toyota car collided in Brooklyn during rush hour yesterday afternoon, injuring seven people, two of them in serious condition, authorities said.
Witnesses reported that a gold Toyota Camry tried to pass the bus on the left around 5: 35 pm at E. 66th St. and Ralph Ave. in the Old Mill Basin neighborhood. The vehicles collided, sending the Camry hurtling into a pickup truck.
“I thought someone had been shot!” he told Daily News the neighbor Philip Bertrand, aged 66 who ran out of his house when he heard the impact. Outside, he found the Camry with a smoking engine and a crowd gathered trying to open the doors. “Almost on fire,” he said of the car. “The engine was smoking.”
Bystanders pulled out the 67 year old Camry driver, They laid him down on the asphalt and then tried to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). “They tried to resuscitate him. it just stayed there,” Bertrand said.
In total, two people were seriously injured and another five suffered minor injuries in the triple crash, the FDNY said. All seven were taken to area hospitals.
