chevron-will-sell-its-california-headquarters-and-move-jobs-to-texas

The energy multinational Chevron intends to sell the campus of its headquarters in San Ramón, California, keep its headquarters in that same city and move jobs to Texas, a measure that could deal a new blow to the Bay Area economy.

Chevron said it will cover relocation costs for some employees to move from San Ramon to Texas.

“Chevron plans to sell our Chevron Park campus and move to a new, state-of-the-art leased space in San Ramon,” the oil company announced, according to The Dallas Morning News. In other words, some company employees will stay in San Ramón, where the central offices will continue to be, but they will be moved to a new space, the location of which has not been revealed.

Bishop Ranch, an iconic mixed-use business park featuring offices, shops, and restaurants that adjoins the current company headquarters in Chevron Park, has the capacity to offer modern office spaces for tenants, so it is possible that the employees who remain in San Ramón stay here.

“ The current real estate market provides an opportunity to right-size our office space to meet the requirements of our headquarters employee population,” Chevron said.

The move is expected to occur during the third quarter of 2023, from July to September, according to Chevron.

Chevron currently owns an office tower in Hous ton, Texas, which was once the headquarters of the failed energy company Enron. The company also plans to build another office tower in Houston, where it will send employees who will not stay in San Ramón.

In 2002, Chevron moved its headquarters to San Ramon after abandoning its former headquarters in San Francisco.

Despite the shift of jobs to Texas, Chevron insists that it will not move its headquarters in California.

“Chevron will continue to have its headquartered in California, where the company has a history of 140 years and operations and partnerships throughout the state,” the company said.
