A teenager from Laredo, Texas, managed to escape after being kidnapped for two days and being tortured, after one of his captors left a window open. The young man’s escape occurred in the middle of a ransom negotiation of $30,000.

The nightmare for the minor of 16 years old, identified as “JL” by the authorities, and to his mother, began the night of January 26 2021, when after going out with a friend, the boy did not return home and his mother received a call from a number in Mexico in which they told her that his son was kidnapped and had to pay a ransom of 30 thousand dollars, reports Univision.

His mother narrates that his son was so severely beaten, that in one of the photos they sent him to pressure her to give them the money for him, the teenager could barely open his eyes from how swollen he was.

According to an affidavit written by some people the FBI, other images showed bruises, marks and cuts on the face and neck. He was also portrayed by his captures with adhesive tape on his mouth.

Through the minor’s Facebook Messenger account, they wrote to the mother: “It sucks… they left him abandoned, they also hit him with 5 moldes pero ya mam… (sic)”, Univision points out that the message was in reference to an alleged theft of five drug packages for which the minor would be killed.

The mother of the victim he sought help from the FBI, sending them the kidnappers’ evidence. Negotiations continued the next day with the support of the federal agency

“JL” spoke by phone with the mother him to confirm that he was actually kidnapped. Later, the captors told the woman that “she had to give them the money soon or her son would be killed.”

The 26 in January afternoon, the teenager called his mother and informed her that he had escaped and was in Laredo.

The boy explained that he fled through from a window that his captors did not close, in addition, in his statement to the FBI and the Laredo Police, he described the place where he was kidnapped and described the person who held him captive as a man full of tattoos who wore a short-sleeved striped shirt and he had a monitoring device on his ankle, in addition to helping them identify the apartment complex where he was deprived of his liberty.

Later, “JL” was taken to a hospital where they treated “several wounds”.

Héctor José López, 31 years old was arrested after FBI agents reviewed a video of v video surveillance of an apartment near the place where the minor was kidnapped.

Once arrested, López said that his accomplice, Nancy Yvette García, of 33 years, offered him 100 dollars in exchange for having the boy in his apartment. The woman told him that ‘JL’ tried to “rob” them and jumped on their vehicle after a drug sale that went wrong, reports Univision.

While the District Attorney for the Southern District of Texas indicates that ‘JL’ participated in “a marijuana business” that “came out wrong.”

Garcia’s arrest occurred later, the woman was serving supervised release for a conviction of 500 for conspiracy to transport undocumented immigrants.

A few days ago, each one was sentenced to 8 and 15 years prison respectively. At the end of their sentences López and García will be three years on probation.
