A young mother who was walking her 3-month-old baby in a stroller was fatally shot Wednesday night on a street on the Upper East Side, police sources said.

The woman 20 years old was shot in the head by a suspect who approached him from behind at Lexington Avenue and East 95th Street around 8: 20 pm, as first reported by The New York Post.

The woman was rushed to the Metropolitan Hospital where she was declared dead, assured media, however, the baby was unharmed.

Also It transpired that the gunman, dressed completely in black, fled on foot down 95 East Street, information that was later corroborated by the commissioner of NYPD Keechant Sewell.

A shell casing was recovered at the scene and police are scouring the area for video, sources told the Post.

Mayor Eric Adams and Commissioner of New York police officer Keechant Sewell later confirmed this information at a press conference at the scene of the shooting.

“We are going to find the person responsible for this horrible crime and we will bring him to justice. We will continue our work to remove guns from New York, but we need help from Washington and the state,” Mayor Adams said at the conference.

For his part, Keechant Sewell, said that this crime is under investigation, and asked New Yorkers who have information about the event to contact the authorities.
