The newly founded Angel City FC will host the Mexican women’s team in the inaugural Copa Angelina. This game will take place at the Banc of California Stadium on Monday, September 5, during Labor Day, at 6: 00 pm (local time); this was announced by the Mexican Football Federation (FMF) and Soccer United Marketing (SUM).

The Angelina Cup aims to unite the history of the FMF and the path that Angel City is building for women in sports. Additionally, it will highlight the rich Mexican culture at LAFC through entertainment, community benefit and an annual on-field competition.

The Angelina Cup will be broadcast on the networks of Televisa-Univision in the US and Mexico. Tickets will be available to the general public beginning Tuesday 12 in July. The organizations also announced that fans will have access to a Fan Fest prior to the match, while a musical artist will perform during the event.

“We hope to grow the Angelina Cup year after year and set an example of what is possible when two organizations come together to celebrate our commonalities and differences while bringing our communities together to enjoy the beautiful game,” added Uhrman.

The Angel City debuted in the National Women’s Soccer League in April 2022 , in view of 22,000 sold-out spectators at Banc of California Stadium. The club, which has Cristina Aguilera as one of its main investors, is managed by Freya Coombe. It is also made up of stars such as Christen Press (USA), Ali Riley (New Zealand), Jun Endo (Japan) and Vanessa Gilles (Canada).

The women’s national team of Mexico, for its part, is number 26 in the FIFA ranking, published on 17 June 2022. It has been commanded since January 2021 by former soccer player Mónica Vergara, who began working with the group during the pandemic. Under his mandate, the team held eight concentrations, in which 55 players from the Liga MX Femenil, as well as from the leagues, saw action. from Spain, the Netherlands, Portugal, France and the United States.
