The driver of the truck in which at least 51 immigrants were found dead in Texas was on a methamphetamine “trip”.
It was a law and order officer who revealed that detail to the San Antonio Express News.
Homero Zamorano, aged 45, was arrested in a field near the scene after he left the 18 wheeled trailer with the aliens hiding inside on Monday.
“He was very high on methamphetamine when he was arrested nearby and had to be transferred to the hospital”, indicated the source.
After the macabre discovery, the authorities managed to locate the registration of the vehicle at an address in the same city. Monitoring through security cameras led to the arrest of two other individuals, identified as Juan Claudio D’Luna-Mendez and Juan Francisco D’Luna-Bilbao.
For the time being, both have been charged with illegal possession weapons while illegally residing in the US
While the third party would be charged with unspecified charges once it is discharged from the hospital.
Precisely, this morning, the Government of Mexico confirmed that two of those arrested are from the country.
39 men and 12 women suffocated to death in high temperatures in the truck. The thermometer rose to 103 °F on Monday.
Of these, at least 22 are of Mexican origin, seven are Guatemalan and four are Honduran.
Some 30 receive treatment in hospitals; most are intubated.
