A mother of Hispanic origin in California pleaded guilty Monday to killing her two children, ages 4 months and two years, respectively, in events reported five years apart.

Briseida G. Sran, of 31, pleaded guilty to five counts including murder, child abuse and mutilation in connection with the deaths at the 2015 of Divina Sran, 4 months; and Thaddeus Sran, 2 years old. The latter had special needs.

The woman’s husband, Sukhjinder Sran, of 43, also pleaded guilty, but for the murder of Thaddeus. The authorities have no evidence that he was linked to Divina’s murder.

A statement citing Sally Moreno, Madera County District Attorney, indicates that the convicted will spend 28 years in jail as a result of the agreement of guilt, while Sukhjinder will spend 11 years behind bars.

The agreements were reached almost two years after Thaddeus was reported missing by the couple. The minor did not speak and was fed by a tube.

The Law & Order report indicates that on the morning of 14 July, 2020, the parents told Madera Police Department personnel that Thaddeus had disappeared from his room after being put to bed the night before.

At that time, the duo alleged that someone could have entered the room through an open window.

This led to agents from different agencies and members of the community joining the search.

Nine days later, police dogs found the minor’s burned remains buried in a nearby orchard. Upon discovery, the parents became uncooperative and were arrested

In 2015, the woman had been investigated for the death of Divina, but no charges were filed since there was not enough evidence to prosecute her

The suspect’s lawyer argued that the minor had several medical conditions that caused her death. The authorities stated that the baby had injuries that were not normal.

However, the similarities between the injuries recorded on the bodies as well as new undisclosed evidence facilitated the filing of charges.

The sentencing hearing is supposed to take place today in Madera County Superior Court.
