An embarrassing fight between 40 and 60 people erupted on the dance floor aboard a Carnival cruise ship yesterday morning, as it approached the end of its journey in Manhattan (NYC) from the Caribbean.
According to NYPD, the confrontation began inside an adult dance club on the Carnival Magic ship around 5: 20 am on Tuesday, while sailing near the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge, which connects Staten Island and Brooklyn counties.
The fight started between two people, reported Pix11. Dozens more joined the fray, with an estimated 40 to 60 people involved, according to NBC News.
Security on board tried to break up the fight, but then asked the Coast Guard for help, he said NYPD.
Then, the Coast Guard escorted the ship to the Pier 60 near West 48th Street in Manhattan. There, NYPD officers were present when the passengers disembarked from the cruise ship.
No information about the arrests was immediately available. Authorities could not confirm in the afternoon if the incident would be handled by the New York police, New Jersey authorities or if it occurred in international waters.
“Last night, while Carnival Magic was returning to New York, multiple passengers were involved in an altercation at a nightclub,” the cruise ship said in a statement. “Fortunately no serious injuries were reported and our onboard security team intervened.”
“The cruise ship arrived as scheduled this morning and the police authorities on land were notified and they came to the ship to interview suspects and witnesses and conduct an investigation.”
The ship, which departed the Cape Liberty cruise port in New Jersey on June 20, traveled to Dominican Republic, Turks & Caicos Islands and a private one in the Bahamas before returning to the East Coast, according to an online tracker.
