On the afternoon of Monday 27 in June, the police of San Antonio, Texas, announced that a trailer with several immigrants crowded together had been found. Instantly there was talk of 42 deaths, later the figure grew to 47 and even today it is known that 51 are the Hispanics who died of suffocation.
Among the survivors are 15 persons, adults and 4 children, who they were transferred to different hospitals in the city after the authorities made a call about a “mass casualty event”.
After the misfortune that has mourned 51 families, Archbishop Gustavo García told Telemundo cameras that he has had the opportunity to tour the hospitals where the survivors of the tragedy are and the outlook is bleak for all of them.
“They are in a very difficult condition, many of them intubated. From yesterday to today, two people died,” said Gustavo García.
The Bexar County Commissioner, Rebeca Klay-Flores, told the same outlet that a young woman from 23 years is on the mend, while one of the four minors is torn between life and death.
“When one Finding so many dead in one place is something that has a very strong impact,” said Rebeca Klay-Flores.
For Dr. Joseph Varón, the immigrants who managed to survive these extreme conditions of heat and dehydration interior of the trailer may suffer some consequences, such as: mental health, heart, kidney and brain conditions.
Meanwhile, Gregorio, who owns a funeral home in Texas, has offered his services to the Mexican authorities so that the relatives of the deceased can give their loved ones a holy burial.
Among the deceased are 23 Mexicans, 7 Guatemalans and 4 h Ondurans and that the identity of the other victims has not yet been determined.
