The four-time world boxing champion, Mikey García, communicated this Tuesday through his personal Instagram account his decision to retire from professional boxing, putting an end to an outstanding career in the ring.
At 34 years old, García updated his profile where he recalls the four world titles he won during his time in boxing and adds the word “retired”.
“Retired World Champion 126, 130, 135 and 140 lbs,” his profile information read.
The four-time champion accumulated a record of 40-2 in which he won titles in the featherweight, super featherweight, lightweight and super lightweight categories.
As if that were not enough, he remained active for 16 years, debuting at an early age in 2006 against Domingo Herrera Mendoza, with whom he obtained his first victory and it was not until the year 2013 when he obtained his first belt when he was crowned featherweight champion of the World Organization of Boxing (WBO).
In addition, García had the opportunity to also be crowned in welterweight (147 lbs), but he met another champion: Errol Spence Jr. ( 16-0), who defeated him by unanimous decision in the fight for the belt of the International Boxing Federation (IBF).
The boxer’s career could have been more fruitful but problems with Top Rank condemned him to a long period without combat.
At the moment it is unknown what the American fighter of Mexican descent will do but it is expected that he will dedicate himself to sharing with his children who frequently posts on his Instagram account @teammikeygarcia.
