President Joe Biden announced that the United States will strengthen its military actions in various parts of Europe, in the midst of the Russia-Ukraine armed conflict.
The actions will be concentrated in Spain, Poland, the United United Kingdom, Germany and Romania, in addition to the shipment of more military equipment.
Biden confirmed that “the destroyers of the US Navy” will be deployed in Spain, which will go from four to six stationed at the Rota Naval Base.
“In Poland, we will establish a permanent headquarters for the Fifth Corps of the US Army .USA”, he added.
He said that this will allow to reinforce the coordinated operations between NATO and the US Navy on the eastern European flank, near Ukraine.
“We are going to maintain an additional rotating Brigade, consisting of 3,000 combatants and another 2,000 troops ”, he narrowed down. They will be based in Romania.
In the Baltic states there will also be a rotating military deployment, in addition to sending two F- 35 additional to the United Kingdom.
“And we will station additional air defense and other capabilities in Germany and Italy“, advanced the president, who gave a joint press conference with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
These actions are part of NATO’s new strategic plan to defend Article 5 of the international organization, Biden said.
“An attack against one is an attack against everyone, every inch”, recalled the US president, who welcomed the request of Finland and Sweden to join NATO and move away from neutrality.
“In my opinion, and I think also in yours, we are sending an unequivocal message that NATO is strong, united and that the steps we are taking during this summit will further increase our collective force,” he said.
Biden said that at the NATO summit in Spain, the Alliance is “taking a step forward” amid Vladimir Putin’s actions in Ukraine.
Stoltenberg welcomed the US decision .to increase its military presence in Europe.
“This really shows your decisive leadership in strengthening the transatlantic bond, and it is also seen in the unwavering support of you and the United States for Ukraine” , said.
He added that the members of the Alliance are aware that we live in “a more dangerous world, a more competitive world”, for which the military security actions are the most extensive since the end of the Cold War.
Also Canada is expected to expand its military presence in Europe.
