Those who love fishing will strangely be surprised by some of the specimens they usually get, whether from freshwater or from the depths of the ocean.

However, those who are dedicated to this activity, but especially those who do not know much about the subject, have expressed their surprise, but also some fear, with a fish that someone caught in deep waters in southeastern Australia.

In a photo shared by a Facebook user named Jason Moyce, who is known on the social network as “Trapman Bermagui”, turned to this to ask users for help to identify the strange fish he had recently caught.

“I’m pretty sure it’s a puffer fish. Captured in deep water, east of Bermagui. It’s probably the ugliest fish I’ve ever seen. And it’s much uglier in person,” Moyce wrote. been roasted over a live fire. He also has a piece of fish coming out of his mouth.

Moyce’s photo received all kinds of comments, including one from from the Australian Museum, who told him that, indeed, it looked like a puffer fish, flesh-colored, with a “round head and soft skin”; however, this specimen seems to have ulcers, so other visitors consider that it could be a different species.

The photo sparked hundreds of reactions and comments in a few hours, including people who said they were horrified when Moyce suggested he might eat it. “Never put something in your mouth that cannot be identified,” they recommended.

Other visitors to Moyce’s Facebook account said they thought it might be an anglerfish, stargazer, or frogfish, and there was even one who wrote suggesting that it looked like an almost extraterrestrial species.

Bermagui is a coastal community, in which this rare fish was found, whose waters attract fishermen from all over the world, since that its warm northern currents run very close to the coast and have a great abundance of fish of all kinds.
