what's-new-about-a-stimulus-check-for-high-gas-costs

Although several experts believe that the best way to help Americans face the high cost of gasoline is to send a new stimulus check, the government of President Joe Biden does not yet have a specific plan in this regard.

Nor has Congress specified a project that would allow this money to be sent in a similar way to the stimulus checks for the COVID-pandemic 19.

The only thing that is on the table for discussion in a concrete way is the plan of the Biden Administration to forgive the tax on gasoline and diesel, of about cents, something to be decided by Congress, but where there does not seem to be much enthusiasm.

The Washington Post indicated that the Biden Administration was also considering “refund cards”, in order to return the tax on gasoline to Americans.

“That is part of what we are considering,” Biden said about the ace cards. “That’s part of the whole operation.”

The Post added that rebate cards were considered months ago, although a gas tax exemption may be more likely, given that shortages of chips in the US will likely make it difficult to produce enough cards to ship.

Democratic Rep. Jamaal Bowman (New York) has indicated that the plan to forgive the tax for three and a half months has limitations, in addition to the fact that it could only benefit companies and not directly Americans, so it plans another proposal that will go directly to citizens.

“Reducing the amount of taxes that fossil fuel or fossil fuel companies must pay does not necessarily mean that it will reduce costs”, considered Bowman.

The congressmen analyze an extra tax to the companies on the extra profits, money that would be sent to the consumers, but not there is detail of how it would be done.

Beverly Moran, professor emeritus of law at Vanderbilt Law School, defended the stimulus check as the best way to help Americans.

“If the government wants to do something to help people who have problems with the cost of gasoline, they can send another check to people“, he considered.
