Disney Pixar’s new animated film ‘Lightyear’ was banned in at least 06 countries, prior to release on 17 June, for showing two female characters, who are a couple, exchanging a kiss.
The controversy occurs during Pride Month, which sees commemorations of the LGBT+ rights movement , as well as activism, and tired of the negative comments generated by the brief scene in the film, Ricky Martin launched a strong message for the people who threw hate.
The singer showed his firm position and dedicated a comment that was directed especially to those parents who do not want their children to see the film.
“Those people who think that their children are going to become gay for watching ‘Lightyear’, put on Einstein documentaries to see if the intelligence that they did not acquire by genetics also rubs off on them,” he said via an Instagram story.
Ricky is widely known for his activism in favor of the LGBT+ community and progressive ideas in the United States and the world with his Latino voice. He uses his networks, in addition to sharing moments with his followers, to send messages of support against discrimination and bullying suffered by members of this community.
‘Lightyear’ is a prequel derived from the series ‘Toy Story’, critically and commercially acclaimed. In it, the central character, Buzz ‘Lightyear’, has a friend who is in a relationship with another woman, whom he briefly kisses on the mouth in one scene.
Everything lasts about three seconds, however, that proved too long for censors in many Muslim-majority nations, where laws often criminalize same-sex relationships.
