The national team sub’ of Mexico lost this Thursday against Guatemala and was left out of any possibility to attend the World Sub’ next year in Indonesia and the Olympic Games in Paris 2024, which the Mexican Football Federation described as shameful.
“The result is shameful, which for no reason is he should have filed; It is a very strong blow and of course we are hurt“, said the sports director of the Federation, Gerardo Torrado, at a press conference.
After leading his group with two wins and a draw and after beating Puerto Rico 6-0 in the round of 16, this Wednesday the Mexicans showed a lack of character against Guatemala, missed five penalties and were left out of the World Cup and the Olympics, which, in addition to affecting sports and business, according to Torrado, it will impede the development of young players.
Torrado accepted that the result is a failure and the Mexican fans do not deserve it and announced an analysis of the defeat and a strategy to give opportunities to compete in the coming years to the members of the generation that they will miss the World Cup and the Olympics.
“We are going to make a plan so that we do not lose these players along the way, so that we can offer them important competitions so that in the future we can see in the senior team”, he pointed out.
Mexico will be out of the World Cup sub’20, in which he reached the final in 1977 and third place in the 2011 and as a consequence he will miss the Olympics in Paris, after the gold in London 2012 and the bronze in Tokyo 2020.
